Important: Before you broadcast be sure to........

Just some common sense advice. Before you broadcast your radio show over the PA speaker system, be sure to test it out on an empty classroom . Once all students have been evacuated, play your radio show to see if the volume is too much or too little. You'll save yourself the embarrassment of having a show that no one could hear. You may be surprised, what you hear through your computer speakers is often not what comes out of the schools PA system. Good luck!!

Mac Users

If you own a Apple computer, you'll happy to know that to produce a high quality podcast or radio show is fairly easy and free. All you need is "Garage Band"(the equivalent of Audacity), and "iWeb", both are free software that come with a purchase of any new Mac. "Garage Band" comes with a ton of free to use sound effects, jingles, and songs. If you are interested in learning about podcasting on a mac, just follow this link to some mac tutorials.

Video Podcast Tutorial

Here is a "how to" podcast tutorial that I used to base the workshop on. The great thing about this is that it comes with audio and video clips. Doesn't get any easier than this. ;)

How to change a stereo track into a mono track ?

Someone asked me this question during the workshop. Hopefully this explanation will help.

From Podcasting

In order export our podcasts into the smaller mono format, we must first locate the stereo tracks and split the two stereo channels into two seperate audio tracks. We can do this by locating the track menu(as shown in the above photo) and selecting "Split Stereo Track".

From Podcasting
Once we've split the stereo track, we can now change them to mono tracks. Do this by again going the individual tracks menu(as shown in the picture above) and selecting "Mono". This must be done for both of the two tracks. Once this is done we can export our radio show/podcast into an MP3 file that is mono.

Any comments or additional suggestions are welcomed.
